Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

The lunch special, which included a large slice of pizza, a large salad, and a drink was $6.99. The combo pizza slice was delicious! The toppings were plentiful, the cheese and sauce were flavorful, and the crust was not too doughy, not too crispy, but just right. The salad was substantial, and the ingredients were fresh. The employees were friendly, and the interior was clean and spacious.

Awesome pizza. Just like NYC. Also very good calzone. Wife enjoys the salads. And junior likes the pasta. TV in the seating area - great for sports or judge Judy. Convenient to highway 69 and 435.

I wasn't impressed. First when I walked in no one greeted me. Second the food was bland and I wasn't impressed. The price was comparable but the flavor and freshness was far from ideal. I wasn't sure about the place looking from the outside, it looked like a not going to be impressed location and it turned out to be just that. I didn't want to drive to another place to eat as I was at the coffee shop nearby and was hungry. It was a more generous portion than I expected, but I'd rather had a smaller portion and a better flavor with fresher ingredients. It's healthier I'd imagine than the Burger King but I don't have a desire to return.

This is a good place to grab a quick lunch. They have a couple of lunch specials, but the one I take advantage of is a salad, a slice of pizza, and a drink. I forget the price of that special, but it's reasonable. From what I understand, they have great Italian desserts, but I have not tried them personally. IMHO, the only downfall of the place is that they serve Pepsi products and I'm a Coca-Cola girl at heart, so that's the only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5! The owner is friendly and funny and the woman who runs the register is fast and efficient. Check it out! They will also customize your slice if you ask!

We ordered from this place today, mostly on the basis of Yelp reviews. The large pizza is huge - have never seen a pizza box this big. We got a large pepperoni and a large veggie. Calling this close to NY pizza is really misleading. The dough was thick and chewy with a soggy bottom. We threw out 80% of these pies. I've never thrown out pizza in my life...its almost a sacrilege. It was just that bad. Maybe we caught them on an off day. Bummer.

This afternoon I am singing your praises! Of all places, I was told about Original Pizza at the gym while complaining that there are no decent pizza establishments in the KC area. We decided to start off with the basic half pepperoni half cheese pizza and it was everything I had hoped for. I knew from the moment I walked in that it was going to be good, the pizza was showcased right when you walked in the door. The same gritty ambiance that we have back home. Nothing fancy, just good food. My only complaint is that there are no appetizers on the web site and no take out menu in the restaurant. BTW, are he jalapeño poppers cream cheese or cheddar??
(5)Kristen L.
Lives up to the hype. Loved it! Crust, sauce, cheese all right on for ny style. The main reason I can't give this place 5 stars is cleanliness. Yes I know it's more of a local dive and floors get dirty in a busy restaurant around dinner hour. However see a large hole in the wall and huge spider web in the ladies room was really what put it over the edge for me. I can't not see those things and really wonder how if the kitchen is really clean. There's certainly room for improvement in this area. I do think I'll be back because the pizza really was that good. It was obvious this place has a following as almost every other person who came in while we were there knew the guys behind the counter. So that's respectable in my mind. Be sure to visit their website for a $3 off coupon

I love OP. Such nostalgia for me. You can't get pizza by the slice better anywhere in KC. They get the crust to a lovely brown/toasted color I crave. I never remembered the gyros, is that new? Anyway, I ordered a "small" Greek salad to eat before the slice and they asked if I "wanted meat." To which, of course, the answer is always yes. I assumed it was salami, pepperoni, ya know, antipasti meat. Nope--full on, hot, gyro meat with warm pita! Nice! The gyro meat was where they faltered just a bit. The taste was good, they just had a little trouble reheating it. Edges were a bit...rubbery? But the rest of the salad was delicious, really big, great & fresh toppings. I never knew, OP!
(4)Paul R.
Great lunch special: slice, salad, and drink is about $6. The guys running it are as Italian American as it gets. You can sometimes here them singing in Italian during lunch. I love eating here for lunch. And don't forget the cannoli for dessert. Made to order.
(4)Brandon R.
Let it be stated that this is only for the location on Antioch Road. The place is disgusting. Not the pizza, but the interior etc. Looks old outdated, just a shabby show in general. Its like if your house was in a state that was not presentable then people decided to show up. I felt like we showed up while they were in the middle of making the place not look so gross. Pizza was good, the guys taking our order were really friendly etc. But the decor was horrid and the bathrooms look like they could use comet, mixed with bleach, mixed with Jesus.

My favorite New York style pizza in the area. I order their pizza fairly often for carryout. My personal favorite combination is sausage, onion, and green pepper. Everything tastes fresh. I also think their plain cheese or pepperoni is good too. If you are a fan of the New York style pizza, then you definitely need to try this place. I haven't found any other pizza place that can compete. Tip: go online to their website and print out a coupon for $2 off a large pizza. It seems to always be on their website.
(5)Rachel R.
Closest to NY pizza I have found and this is coming from a born and bred NY Italian girl!
(5)Kev L.
Simply true NY Pizza. Everyone else is just a wannabe. This location is my favorite of all of the Original Pizza's. Not just cause Tony's Brooklyn accent makes you feel nostalgic of NY. but simply because the ovens are almost 40 years. And everyone knows old ovens make the best pizza. The cheese pizza alone in my opinion destroys any pizza with any toppings anywhere else. Not to mention the Gyro sandwich, although not the most authentic one out there, for some reason taste strangely addictive. My wife regularly craves them. she's also a huge fan of their veggie pizza. Also a thing of beauty is the wonderful crust the pizza here has. I mean to get crust any better, you might need to literally cut Lombardi's out of the ground and ship the whole building to KC. Don't be a stranger and try some mind-blowing pizza. FYI, they also have pizza by the slice. (And they have cannoli's!)
(5)Dev V.
I used to come here all the time when I was younger. In the past year I moved back to this area of the city and finally just had a chance to order a pizza from here last night. I have never ordered a pizza to go here, I always got pizza by the slice. Wow, what a difference. The pizza by the slice is right out of the oven, thin, NYC style and good. But, getting a pie to go is not the same experience. I ordered a hamburger and onion and I think the majority of the pizza was onion, a definite onion overload. The pizza was more of a thick style crust (14") and lacked flavor. I'll probably come back, but only for the pizza by the slice.
(2)Kicha U.
This was not a great experience. I have been here over the years and always had a good experience. The staff seemed confused on how to wait on one person (me!) I was walked away from. They had a salad pizza combo that I decided to get. The cucumbers were molding and everything seem to been left out for a long time. I even had some trouble getting some one to ring me out. I was passed off again at this point again. I won't be back and don't see how it will last at that rate. I hope things turn around. The pizza was ok at best.

My favorite eat in pizza place in Overland Park. I suggest it to everybody who works near where I do (near Corporate Woods). The pizzas are all good, very New York in style and delivery, with big slices and chewy delicious crust. I take my new staff here for lunches and they're always impressed. I honestly haven't tried much. I know they make pasta and gyros, but I've always gotten pizza. I eat here about once a month (less so since being on a diet). I also run into my uncle here from time to time (he also works nearby) and we get to share lunch together. My favorite part about this place though is the Little Italy vibe from the crew and managers. They'll sing, sometimes in Italian, shout across the counter at their loyal fans/customers, tell jokes, and welcome you in the door like they missed you. That's a big deal to me. Today I saw who I've always figured is the owner outside playing with his grandkid, talking to him in Italian like only Italian grandpas can do, and it warmed the heart. They have a lunch special that's a salad, slice of pizza, and a drink for about $6. That's hard to beat.
(4)Lindsay H.
This place has one of the best combo deals in the city. You can get a slice and a salad for $5.99. It's a huge slice and a steal for the price. It feels very New York, right down to the owner's accent. Great family atmosphere and fantastic food!
(4)Michael S.
I LOVE Original Pizza! I am from Chicago, and I love deep dish and thin crust, but I have yet to find a place that has pizza like Original. It is the best New York style I've ever had. Every time I got to KC I have to go here.
(4)Derrick W.
First time going to Original Pizza. Excellent service and incredible food. Believe the other reviews! This is definitely some of the best pizza in the KC metro.
(5)Amanda P.
What can I say? I really love this place! I've yet to eat a "dish" there I didn't care for. Obviously, pizza-by-the-slice is always a win-win! The calzones are good! The Greek salad is yum! The gyro is my hero! Personally, I think my favorite thing about this place is the friendly people that work there. It's nice to be able to crack open a PBR and have a quick beer and chat while they make you a tasty gyro and cannoli to go!
(5)annie t.
This is our favorite pizza shop. They have one at the Oak Park Mall too, but this is a restaurant. Both are great; we love coming to this location bc the owner is super nice and the staff is always friendly. They have a great deal with a slice, salad, and drink, but if you're getting lots of slices it's cheaper to order a whole pizza. Their small salad bar tastes great...not the healthiest veggies but just what you want to compliment your huge slice of pizza. The pop is always fizzy and the food is consistantly good, and it's a great relaxed atmosphere to eat and chill out in...there's always a small tv on and never tons of people. The lunch rush gets a little busy, but other than that it's all good! And for extra kicks they sell beer; plus if you have a sweet tooth (like me) there is a TCBY a couple doors down.
(5)Nicole D.
GREAT PIZZA! i love New York style pizza and they have it! it's the only pizza place i will go. i got an 18" piza with 2 toppings to go for only 20.69! it feeds like 4 people, forget pizza hut and domino's this is worth the pick-up!
(5)brett s.
the closest thing to ny pizza in town. While Papa Kenos and d bronx is good. I think original pizza is the closest thing to ny pizza. The cheese is great and the sauce is the light and almost want to say slightly watered down sauce similar to Ny style. Papa Kenos and dronx are lacking that more pungent cheese that orignal pizza has. Original Pizza needs to revamp their establishment though as it still looks the same as it did 15 years ago. Just does not feel like the cleanest place- Me personally, i dont care- I just want some good dang pizza.
(4)richard s.
i was born and raised in New York and this place is close to NY pizza. i always ask for it well done. they are good and i love that i found them when i moved to leawood

Like Mnason said, this place has been haunting me for quite some time. In fact, I remember the original Original Pizza, located in Oak Park Mall where The Rainforest Cafe eventually moved into, and now is the American Girl store. I have visited Original Pizza at Oak Park both in their original location and in the food court very sporadically over the years, and did not give them much thought. Probably the mall-food stigma. However, over the years I've expanded my pizza-eating horizons and come to embrace a variety of pizza styles, mostly involving different types of crust. I have read so much about how Original Pizza was authentic New York style, I thought I had to try it again after a lapse of several years. This go round, I opted for the Overland Park location on Antioch and College Blvd. I decided to keep it NYC street style: a cheese slice. From first glance, this pizza definitely has an authentic NY look to it. Large, covered with cheese, relatively thin crust with a larger cornicione (outer crust). Original Pizza, you had me at first bite. Not only was the slice foldable (a test for true NYC za), but the crust had that chewiness you expect and a decent flavor to it. The cheese was certainly plentiful and no complaints from me. The sauce was also typical of a NYC style and something which also differs from a typical Midwestern style pizza. Most pizza sauces I grew up on were heavily seasoned, mostly with oregano & garlic and go from there. Of the NY style pizzas I've tried over the years, their sauce is much less seasoned. It is not exactly bland, but New Yorkers seem to prefer a more pure plain tomato flavor than adding a lot of spices. Not what I am used to, but that is fine. So overall, I would give the pizza from OP somewhere between a 4 and 5 star rating. What boosts it to a pure 5-stars for me are the owners and service. They are friendly, know their customers, and most importantly know what they are doing. Well done, Original Pizza!
(5)David C.
This is the BEST pizza in Kansas City. The thin Neopolitian crust is not straight outta NY, it's straight outta Southern Italy and trust me, I have been to both. This is a family run place, the Dad cooks at the Overland Park location and the son is mostly at Oak Park Mall. Interesting staff, in terms of individual style and socialization. If I have 8.00 over lunch I can't do better than their two slices and a drink. Pizza ingredients are all similar to the point where art and Love can really play a roll. In this place you can tell the owners Love this food and they have all kinds of skill at making it. FYI, if you speak Italian, the older Dad owner will Love You.
(5)Daniel D.
The best pizza in KC hands down. Always amazing. Oh and I always get my pizza well done
(5)L P.
The crust is the best I've found in Overland Park - crispy and delicious! Very reasonable price for great food - doesn't get any better!
(5)Rachel L.
The first time I ever had Original Pizza was circa 2000ish in the food court at Union Station. I was in love with it. It's dough is something I've never had before and I like how you can feel the tiny grains of yeast on the bottom. The sauce and dough are my favorite parts. The sauce isn't marinara-y tasting and it's not zesty either. It's almost sweet. The older Italian guy at this location looks and acts like he just got off a train from New York. I wish they had more locations or something downtown. But I do make the 20 min trip to get my two slices when I'm craving it. I want to try a calzone sometime but end up with my usual. Suppose next time I shall step out of my comfort zone and go for it :-)
(5)Casey C.
Always great, guys do a good job of always having the pizza ready. The family loves it. I wish the dining room was a bit nicer so we didn't always have to carry it out. Regardless, we love the pizza period.
(5)Chris W.
I have been coming to Original Pizza for years as it is the closest to real NY style pizza I grew up with back in NY. Last night I did a take out of a large pie, half anchovies and half Italian Sausage. I closed my eyes and felt like I was home. The crust was delicious and the sausage had real fennel seeds. I realize that there are many "gourmet" pizza places these days with all kinds of interesting toppings. But if you are a transplanted NYer looking for a taste of the Mom and Pop corner pizza places you used to go to back home, Original Pizza still is at the top of the list.
(4)Joe H.
I've only been to NY once, but I tried my fair share of slices up there. I have to agree with Kev L. on this - Original Pizza is the closest to the pizza I had in NY (specifically Manhattan only) The pizza at Original Pizza is great. The crust, the sauce, the cheese...delicious. Is it my favorite? I can't pick a favorite pizza around here. There are several that I enjoy all depending on what I want in the way of crust, cheese, and toppings. I would however recommend Original Pizza if you're craving a slice of NY style pizza
(4)Clayton R.
This place is great! For $6 I received a medium sized salad, personalized to my tastes, a slice of NY pie and a medium drink. Can't beat that, man! The pizza is foldably delicious, and the salads are great as well. I haven't ordered any of their full size pizzas, but they look pretty awesome sitting there through the window. Thanks, Yelpers, for pointing me in the direction of this place!! I was happily surprised.
(5)Cyrena K.
Although I am not typically a fan of the warm up pizza process - something about the pizza flavor at Original is just outstanding. Not to mention the family ate for almost pocket change.
(4)Mike R.
Amazing pizza. Best in the Midwest. NY pizza in KC is here!
(5)Kay L.
Great lunch spot near the Corporate Woods complex. The lunch special, one slice + a generously-sized salad + medium soda, all for $5.99, is a bargain & quite filling. The pizza is New York style, and has that wonderful, greasy, foldy thing going on -- I got pepperoni, natch, and was pleased to see that I got quite a few of the aforementioned lovely red discs on my slice. Nothing worse than a pizzeria that skimps on the lunchtime by-the-slice pies... no issues with that here, judging by the array of pies in front of the counter guy who took my order. Salad was fresh, but drenched in way too much dressing. Next time I'll ask for the dressing on the side.
(4)Phil W.
Forget about it! This New York boy has hit he jackpot! Best of all worlds... I get to eat great New York pizza but I don't have to be in New York to eat it!
(5)Diana B.
Precooked pizza looked old and the corner where the calzones were had gnats hanging around. We ordered a fresh pizza which was good but took like 30 minutes to cook. We had kids with us, but one of the employees didn't care as he shouted at another employee to stop what he was doing to help, saying "can you ring up these orders instead of doing that sh@#!" Sooo, I give it one star....
(1)Mnason M.
I can't take it anymore... This place has been haunting me with its 4-star rating, so I have to bump it up to 5-stars. The reason: good luck finding better New York style pizza around KC. I ask for it extra hot and that fixes the reason I rated it 4-stars. I like that slice hot enough when I pick it up that some kind of expletive is said then I drop it on my plate then pick it up start eating anyways which is followed by more expletives of goodness. Most of the time, I really sound incoherent because I'm stuffing my face with hot pizza, so you can still bring your kids and not be too offended by my presence. I did miss a few items in my last review. They should get rid of the plastic wear. It melts when it touches my extra hot pizza that I have a hard time picking up, so I cut it up while it is cooling off to avoid second degree burns. Second, a little silly how their storage area is viewable to the public...should have built a wall when that "remodel incident" happened. But you know what? I don't really care because I am happy with pizza and that's what really matters.

Closest to NY pizza I have found and this is coming from a born and bred NY Italian girl!

Forget about it! This New York boy has hit he jackpot! Best of all worlds... I get to eat great New York pizza but I don't have to be in New York to eat it!

Although I am not typically a fan of the warm up pizza process - something about the pizza flavor at Original is just outstanding. Not to mention the family ate for almost pocket change.

Amazing pizza. Best in the Midwest. NY pizza in KC is here!

First time going to Original Pizza. Excellent service and incredible food. Believe the other reviews! This is definitely some of the best pizza in the KC metro.

The best pizza in KC hands down. Always amazing. Oh and I always get my pizza well done

The crust is the best I've found in Overland Park - crispy and delicious! Very reasonable price for great food - doesn't get any better!

GREAT PIZZA! i love New York style pizza and they have it! it's the only pizza place i will go. i got an 18" piza with 2 toppings to go for only 20.69! it feeds like 4 people, forget pizza hut and domino's this is worth the pick-up!

the closest thing to ny pizza in town.
